Samsung releases periodic Android OS updates for its high end smartphones globally. The company has previously rolled out Android 4.3 Jelly Bean Updates for the Galaxy S3, Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note2 and Note 3, bringing the latest definitions and compatibility with the Galaxy Gear launched last year. This year Samsung has launched the Galaxy S5 and the Tizen based Samsung Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo and Gear Fit.
During the Galaxy Gear launch it was found that the smartwatch was not compatible with older Galaxy Devices, so Samsung had to roll out update to make older devices compatible with the Galaxy Gear. Like the Galaxy Gear the latest Samsung Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo and Gear Fit are likely to be incompatible with older Galaxy Smartphones and Notes, in order to encourage the customers buy the latest Samsung Gears the company must first roll out Android update with Gear 2 devices compatibility with it.
Currently all the Galaxy Notes and Galaxy S series (Except the first Galaxy S) smartphones are compatible with the Galaxy Gear launched last year. This year the company launched Galaxy S5 along with Samsung Gears so its obvious that the Galaxy S5 will be compatible with the Gear 2s based on Tizen OS, but the older devices like Note 2, Note 3 and Galaxy S3, S4 will not be compatible with the latest Gears. It is also worth noting that the company recently launched the Galaxy Grand 2 smartphone, which has got pretty good specs. A lot of Galaxy Grand 2 users may actually be interested in having their device paired with the latest Gears. But it seems like Samsung has no plan to include the older Grand in the list of compatible models as of now. The list of smartphones to get Android update to KitKat 4.4 is now leaked and list does include the latest Galaxy Grand 2 smartphone. So if you are using the older Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Grand its time you make a switch to the latest ones.
